The state of Hawaii offers many opportunities for those inclined to study in the fields of agriculture, natural resources and sustainability.  Listed bellow are the different schools that offer programs in these fields, clicking on the link will take you to the schools website and the programs offered.  With the wide range of locations and specialties at each school, the options for furthering education in Hawaii are great.

University of Hawaii at Hilo

The University of Hawaii at Hilo is located on the island of Hawaii.  UH Hilo offers the College of Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Resource Management (CAFNRM), who opened its doors in the fall of 1975 with the main objective to prepare students for a broad and full understanding of basic factors involved in production, management, processing, distribution, marketing, sales, and services in the field of agricultural sciences.

 

The Plant Bioscience Technology Academic Subject Certificate provides you the education and training to succeed in Hawaii’s diversified agriculture and biotechnology workforce. It’s also a perfect start to a four year degree in bioscience, or developing your own agribusiness.

In this program, you will:

  • learn botany, plant physiology, soil and water science as you grow a field crop from seed to seed.
  • explore attractive career opportunities in agriculture and soil conservation.
  • fulfill a natural science/lab requirement for the AA degree
  • receive $500 stipend, if eligible.

 

Windward Community College

Located in Kaneohe on the island of Oahu, Windward Community College provides many tracks to get a natural resource and/or agriculture degree.  Review the Agriculture Technology certificate, Bio-Resource Development and Management, Plant Biotechnology, and Subtropical Urban Tree Care.

 

University of Hawaii Maui College

Located on the Island of Maui, the University of Hawaii offers a wide range of Agriculture and Natural Resources degrees.  These different levels include a Certificate of Competence (CO), Certificate of Completion (CC), Certificate of Achievement (CA), and an Associates in Applied Science (AAS).

 

Kauai Community College

Located on the island of Kauai, the community college offers a certificate of competence in Hawaiian Botany.  Kauai CC is also in progress of creating  a new program similar to the Plant Bioscience Technology program at Leeward CC.  Hopefully the classes for the Kauai CC program will be on their website soon.
